Straw Mat Weaving Wooden Weights

AG826  $160.00

These rare group of wooden weights (sit rods) were used as weights for straw mat weavings. Beautifully aged weight rods are assumed to be from Akita (the northern Japanese region) and they are tied tother with 'ara-nawa' (a rough straw rope). Each one is made from Japanese hard wood and one of them is recognized as a cherry wood from the distinguished surface texture. An unique discovery from our latest trip. Ca. Early 1900s.

Dimensions: between 6-8" long 1.5-2" diameter
