Pair of Boy's Day Small Silk Banners, Rare
MISC 206 - $120.00 (for a pair)
This lovely small banner was probably from the late 1800s (Meiji Era) for the Boy's Day celebration. The banner was made from fine chirimen silk and it depicts two dusty-blue lines on the top, a crest of "mitsu-oi-myoga" (three herb in the ginger family), and hand-painted three sparrows on the water. The crest was made by stencil-dye (katazome) technique. There are some staines and holes due to the age and the delicate nature; otherwise it is a lovely and very rare piece of textile.
Width : approximately 6" (not including the loops)
Length: approximately 24"
